While the Open Mic nights may be the beating heart of Wild Rose Moon , the Jam Nights are its light-hearted side! On the second Wednesday of each month Howard Gibbs and Mike Kenny host an open acoustic (mostly) jam from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is an opportunity for all area musicians to gather and play music together in a very laid-back, relaxed atmosphere. Anyone is welcome to play along, sing or just listen. Refreshments are served and there is no admission charge, although a donation jar is always available for those who wish to contribute to the Moon’s mission.
All skill levels and musical genres are welcome to join us. Participants sit in a large circle and take turns selecting the songs. Everyone is encouraged to come prepared to suggest a few numbers for the group to play, but there is no pressure if you’re not comfortable leading. From blues to bluegrass, Celtic to country, folk to funk, rock to reggae, Americana or even a little jazz – any type of music is welcome. It is a great way for musicians to experiment with a variety of styles, learn new songs and widen their repertoire. The jams are also an excellent way for less experienced musicians to play along with, and learn from, people who have been playing for years. Those who don’t yet feel comfortable in a performance situation will be able gain confidence playing in front of others, without any fear of pressure or embarrassment. Perhaps more importantly, there is no better way to have fun and warm your heart than to laugh, sing and make music with both new and old friends.
There is no need to sign up in advance, just show up with your instrument (or your voice and hands for clapping) on the second Wednesday of the month.
Jam Night is underwritten by First Federal Savings Bank.
